Why I do what I do, by Sam Newson - Community Care Assistant

March 22, 2017

Being a carer in the community means everything and more to me. I get to help my service users live their life the way they choose to.

No one day is the same being a carer, every day is different. Every day I go into different clients homes and enjoy their company as well as helping them with the things we take for granted. Like doing their shopping or changing the batteries in their hearing aids so they can hear. I love getting to know their background and hearing what they used to do when they were younger. Making them laugh, treating them like family. The smallest things can make my day, it makes me happy knowing I've done what I can to make them happy and know that they are safe when I go home.

Being a Community Care Assistant, I can help people live their life the way they want to, in the comfort of their own homes. Being around their own familiar surroundings and helping maintain their independence.

I don't treat this as a job, I treat it like seeing a part of my family. That's why, I do what I do.
